Green Cleaning
Environmentally friendly cleaning
Imperial Suede and Restoration has used Green Cleaning techniques long before it became popular.
For years , the regulations regarding dry cleaning have increased especially concerning the solvent perchloroethylene. Perc has long been criticized for its hazardous nature and possible effects on the environment. The Dry Cleaning industry has made great steps toward a tremendous reduction in the use of Perc and other hazardous chemicals. Use of Green alternative solvents, such as water and CO2 have begun showing up in many plants to become environmentally friendly. Use of these alternatives have made huge strides toward an environmentally responsible industry.
What is Spotless leather doing for a Greener Industry? We have always taken pride to insure highest quality of leather cleaning available. Our techniques combine the tried and true techniques of the past with the latest technology available. We are continually updating our training and have been using ‘Green’ technologies for the last 25 years. Imperial Suede never used the solvent Perchloroethylene. We use alternatives such as water or petroleum solvent as a means for keeping our Greener processes up to date. Our equipment has kept up to date with a special emphasis on lean and green. Our detergents are biodegradable and we have streamlined our process to minimize the btu inputs throughout our Professional Leather Cleaning system. Wet Cleaning is becoming an industry staple in the reduction of hazardous chemicals. Most leather and suede can be wet cleaned under specific controlled conditions and can reduce solvent usage up to 90 percent. Special soaps and controlled temperatures are vital in Green leather cleaning. Our methods were in place long before it became fashionable to be Green. Our drying process allows for gentle evaporation of the solvents from the cleaned garments. Our forced air drying chamber applies no heat to the garments except a short fluff cycle after all moisture has evaporated. This process has diminished btu’s used in our process. The result is lowered utility bills and lower thermal requirements. Our new plant was constructed about the same time Hurricane Katrina ripped through the Gulf Coast in 2005. New equipment has been vital to our lower thermal requirements. We use recycled hangers and other supplies whenever possible. We also scale back our delivery schedules during slower times to reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions.
For these reasons, Imperial Suede and Restoration is considered to be a Green Leather Cleaner. It is our commitment to maintain our reputation and continue to be environmentally friendly.
