Imperial Suede and Restoration- Some examples of famous leather wearers
Notable Leather
Leather is a
rugged, natural fabric and can be made into a multitude of garments.
Leather jackets are an icon of the tough guy image of James Dean,
Steven Segal, Michael Pare, Bradd Pitt, and Keanu Reeves. Leather
fashions come in just about every color imaginable. Red leather, White
Leather, and even Blue Leather are made in to leather jackets, skirts,
blouses, vests, pants, coats, and chaps. The most popular in the
leather fashion world is by far the black leather jacket. Brown is
also used, particularly in aviation or 'bomber jackets'.
Some of
the sterotypes for leather wearers include Bikers, Pilots, Cowboys,
Rock Idols, and even Police Officers. Leather has become very popular
amongst everyday folks, as well. Leather has become iconic in the film
world by Marlon Brando's character Johnny Strabler as seen in "The Wild One". The Fonz's jacket as seen in the popular series "Happy Days" is
proudly displayed in the Smithsonian Institute. Henry Winkler is still
an icon of the classic black motorclycle leather jacket. Harrison Ford
in the "Indiana Jones" movies sported his leather. Tom Cruise
depicted an aviator in the 1980's film "Top Gun" and proudly wore a
dark brown bomber jacket. Many bomber or pilot jackets are trimmed
with sheep collars. They are often made from horse hides which have a
tighter pore pattern. They are extremely durable and very warm.
Military applications use leather flight jackets as government issue.
There are fewer authentic WW II jackets around with each year that
passes. Spotlessleather.com has successfully restored several naval
World War II jackets as recently as June 2009. In each case, we
removed mildew that had pitted into the surface. We replaced oxidized
zippers and replaced the knit cuffs and bands, too. They are now ready
to be passed on to another generation.
