Green Leather Cleaning

Green Leather Cleaning

Environmentally Friendly Leather Cleaning Process:

Many of the techniques developed and used by Imperial Suede and Restoration, LLC are called Green techniques by today’s standards.

Regulations regarding dry cleaners have increased each year concerning the solvent perchloroethylene or ‘Perc’.  There are many critics for Perc because of its hazardous characteristics and long term effects on the environment.  Perc is heavier than water and will sink into the ground causing contamination. The Dry Cleaning Business has made giant steps toward the reduction of Perc and other hazardous chemicals related to our industry. Green alternate solvents, like CO2 and water have shown up in many dry cleaning plants to become Green.  The alternatives have reduced perc contamination and emissions to make a notable difference across the industry.

What is Spotlessleather.com doing for a Greener Industry and safer Professional Leather Cleaning?  Our pride is evident in the highest quality of professional leather cleaning available.  The techniques used in our process combine techniques of the past and the latest leather method available.  Our training and equipment are up to date and we have utilized ‘Green’ techniques over the last 26 years.  Imperial Suede and Restoration,LLC has never used Perc.  Our process uses alternative solvents like as water or petroleum solvent.  Our equipment is up to date and has a special emphasis on being Energy efficient and Green.  The detergents in the Spotless Leather Process are biodegradable.  We have refined our process to minimize the Btu inputs throughout our Spotless Leather system.  Wet Cleaning has become a staple in the Dry Cleaning Industry by reducing hazardous solvents and chemicals.  About 90 percent of all leather and suede garments can be wet cleaned, but there are conditions that must be controlled.  Wet Cleaning can reduce solvent usage up to 90 percent.  Special detergents and controlled water temperatures are important in Spotless leather cleaning.  There has been a push to become Green, industry wide.  We incorporated some of the techniques long ago.  Our drying process provides gentle evaporation from clean clothes.  We use a forced air drying chamber that requires no thermal units for the garments while the garment is drying.  A short cycle after all the moisture has evaporated is used to fluff the jackets.  This process reduced the amount of btu’s used to achieve Spotless Leather.  This procedure has lowered energy bills and thermal usage.  Our new shop was built about the same time Hurricane Katrina nailed the Gulf Coast in 2005.  New equipment has been important to lower thermal usage. We use recycled supplies and hangers whenever possible.  Our delivery schedule is scaled back during slower summer months to help reduce fuel consumption.

Because of the reasons above, Spotless Leather and Imperial Suede is considered called a Green Leather Cleaner.  We are committed to maintaining our reputation and will continue conducting business on a Green and friendly basis.
